Rattan Lighting and Lamps

Bringing Natural Materials to Life

Plant based lighting is not just for vegans and vegetarians. Many of us are living healthier lives and are careful to include plant-based food and materials in our lives. With this in mind we’ve taken a novel approach to plant-based materials and added a specific range of lighting which uses materials made from plants.

Bamboo & Rattan Lighting

Rattan is a generic term for woven natural materials such as wicker basket weaves worked from plant based materials. Apart from the delightful effects rattan lighting gives it also can do good for the planet as it utilises materials that are sustainable. Lighting that is good for the planet and the people that live and work on it.

The Lighting Company care about people and the conditions in which they live and work, we also care about the world resources and whilst alone we can’t change the world, we believe together we should! We work hard to minimize the waste of materials. We have partnered with brands that have an ethical stance and our latest acquisitions are 2 brands we are proud to welcome to our lighting collections.

Romi and Good&MoJo

It’s all about Romi and Good & MoJo both brands will plant a tree for each light bought from the range and furthermore they support WakaWaka Foundation. The foundation who helps support impoverished people in countries where there is no electric, by providing aid to help bring solar power to the areas. Solar power lets people live and work off grid. Off grid solar electric helps people in the poorest countries communicate and find ways to generate incomes. Good causes and kind people doing beautiful things.

With Good & Mojo Lighting. The materials used are bamboo, jute, eco linen, cork, recycled paper and glass. They have also found a creative way of using car tyres which once no longer useful on a car cannot be recycled. They use the waste tyres to make pendant lamps. Whilst rubber is made from natural material this can be mixed with synthetic materials and neither are biodegradable. It’s great to see a waste product given a second more beautiful life.

Explore Sustainable Lighting.

What’s the difference between biodegradable and sustainable?

Sustainable is using materials that can be used without depleting the resource. Bamboo for example is a sustainable product as it can grow up to a meter in a single day. Cutting and weaving with bamboo won’t have a damaging effect as the plant can regrow again quickly. Glass is a sustainable material as it can be recycled infinite numbers of times. Recycling old glass uses less carbon to remake that it would make new glass. Keep putting your empties into the recycling as it does good.

Beautiful Natural Lighting.

Rattan made from bamboo not only looks good it is good. It’s no small wonder that we are using more and more of the beautiful material within our homes. Lighting made from bamboo and other plant based materials are ceiling lighting, pendant lamps, flush lamps, wall lights, table lamps and floor lamps. Natural colours work effortlessly in the home. The hand made designs are crafted to allow light and shade they create patterns within the space and bring a natural dappled light effect that mimics the natural world to great effect.

Cork is another natural product; the bark can be harvested from the tree without damaging the life of the tree. Cork also has acoustic properties which soften sound in a space to further enhance the calmness you experience with a space.

Jute is a vegetable fiber which is cultivated from seed to harvest within a short period of time. It’s not as popular as cotton but it’s the next most farmed material down the list and we think it could be number one. The fibers like coarse threads can be woven or entwined to create a tactile string like effect.

The ranges are named after places in the natural world where inspiration for the designs sprang forth.

We’ve talked about natural and this no doubt took your mind off to the natural world and exotic sounding locations but for many of us city living is more the vibe. Urban style lights of swanky loft apartments need to be modern and not natural? Why not offset your carbon by choosing a modern light that puts back into nature by planting a tree.

It’s all about Romi know that modern city life draws a little heavier on the planet and have found a way of giving a little back. When you buy a lamp from this range a tree is planted, this is a great idea, and we fully support this hence we’ve chosen to help get this cause to you the consumer. If you wish to do good and want to support the ethics join the 230,000 people who bought a lamp. A forest worth planted so far and by buying a lamp you could be responsible for a small copse of trees just by buying something you like.
