How to style your bedroom with pendant lighting.

Pendant lights are no longer reserved just for living room or kitchen lighting. A stunning Pendant light in the bedroom can add just the right amount of ambience whilst transforming a bedroom into a stylish space. Choosing the right pendant and placing it in the right place can achieve an elegant and sophisticated feature in the bedroom.

The placement of a pendant in a bedroom can determine the function and how much light is required. When thinking of a light for late night reading a pendant light can offer direct and downward lighting that can be fixed to the ceiling above where you lay. Some prefer a softer ambient light to read so having a pendant hang either side of the bed provides a cosy and convenient light for the evening.

Having a light either side of the bed allows the space on your bedside table where ordinarily a table lamp would sit to be free. This space could be used to enhance the mood of the bedroom with a scented candle or picture frame.

If your bedroom doubles as an office, creating different areas of the bedroom using light is perfect to establish a barrier from work and relaxing. Pendant lights tend to diffuse less light than other light fixtures. However, pendant lights excel at spot lighting and illuminating specific areas of a bedroom such as your office area.

Alternatively, if your ceiling rose is not exactly positioned in the right place a swag light which is hung on a slightly longer cable can be hooked up securely at a place and height that suits the design of your bedroom. Although this is a solution to having light in your desired area of the bedroom it also creates an aesthetically pleasing design that can be used as part of the style of your bedroom.

Pendant lights in an area of your bedroom that is designated for relaxing with lounge chairs or similar seating where less light may be desired are the perfect choice. There’s nothing like snuggling up in the evening with a good book under a pendant light without needing the whole room to be illuminated. When pendant lights are installed separate the switches between other light fittings so you can change between one style of lighting to another.

How many pendant lights will I need?

Ultimately pendant lighting is used to accent your bedroom rather than light it up completely. This doesn’t mean it isn’t frequently used as much a main light source.

If you’ve made the decision that you want to have pendant lights as part of the design of your bedroom the next step is to figure out how many you’ll need for the desired amount of light. The size of your bedroom and the size of the pendant will reflect the amount of pendants that are needed. A larger pendant you would usually only have one and that would be centred in the middle of your bedroom. For smaller and more direct light multiple pendants either clustered together over an office desk or matching pendants either side of the bed can be effective.
