Creating The Perfect Scent For Your Bedroom

The scent of a space is arguably just as important as the visual décor. It helps to bring together a room to create an overall sensual experience. A smell can help us recall specific moments in time and is an essential part of the memories we make, our mood and emotions. Your home is the background for many special memories and when you intentionally create a signature scent it adds depth and character allowing you to give your bedroom a relaxing feel.

Scented Candles

Nothing says relax like a scented candle in the bedroom. Using scent to make your bedroom the perfect place for sleep is easy to do. Scented candles not only smell great but their soft flickering light creates an instant ambiance. They are also changeable depending on the season or if you want to alter the way you feel. In the winter you want candles with warming and spicy fragrances that evokes crackling fires and cosy intimacy. However, an open flame left unattended is dangerous so be careful not to fall asleep or leave the room for long periods of time.

Lighting a candle with your chosen aroma whilst preparing for bed or at the end of the working day starts to fill the room with fragrance for ultimate relaxation and can be put out before falling asleep.

Scents such as Lavender and Jasmin in your bedroom create a sleep-inducing treatment that helps your mind focus on the positive and ease you into sleep. If Lavender is a scent that is a bit too predictable for you try a blend of fig, date, nutmeg and ginger with toasted oak and vanilla. A decadent aroma that’s perfect for relaxing.

Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers are a much safer way of creating a scent in your bedroom, however do not create the same effect as a light candle. They are however longer lasting and can slowly diffuse your bedroom more slowly than a candle providing a more subtle aroma. Lavender is probably the best – known calming essential oil. Its soothing aroma can help relax the nervous system, and it is great for relieving restlessness, irritability and insomnia.

Home Office\Bedroom

You may have a designated section of your bedroom that has been created into a makeshift office. That space can be sectioned off by using a different scent that switches your mind from rest mode into work mode. Being in the right environment can boost your productivity levels and improve concentration. This can be influenced by the scent around you.

Lemon in particular is proven to increase alertness, resulting in higher productivity when diffused through an office. Peppermint and cinnamon can also boost concentration and help combat mental fatigue. Whilst rosemary certainly creates a strong scent and encourages clear thinking and improving memory. Having this scent burning before starting your working day to differentiate between relaxation and working helps to create a good working environment.
