Flexible Lighting for your Master bedroom

The best master bedroom lighting has to be flexible to your lifestyle. Often our bedrooms are used for more than just sleeping in, so having layered functional lighting options that reflect your true style create the perfect master bedroom. Lighting that is designed for a beautiful nights sleep that transforms the design of your bedroom into something special. A master bedroom is personal to you its your chance to show your personality and be creative without it being centre stage like a living room or kitchen.

Bedside Lighting

Layering your lighting provides the perfect balance between ambient, decorative and task lighting. A table lamp is one of the most used items in your bedroom therefore, you should never underestimate the importance of a well designed table lamp to the interior of your bedroom.

Table lamps although used as an everyday item in the bedroom can make a statement. Bold and bright colours can lead the design of your bedroom and push the boundaries of your usual style or keep things simple with a classic design. Not forgetting the practicality of an easy to access light for reading with either a touch lamp or one with an in-line rocker switch you can have instant lighting at your finger tips. It’s important to remember to have two lights one each side of the bed as to avoid reaching over a sleeping partner to turn the lamp on or off.

The limit doesn’t end with table lamps. Doubling up and having an ambient light such as a pendant light hung above a bedside table gives the opportunity to create a soft, warm light with the option of using the table lamp for directional light for reading.

Pendants and Chandeliers

Experiment with hanging pendants in unusual ways such as being suspended low over a desk or having a set of 3 pendant lights suspended at different levels in the corner of the room can introduce new layers of light to the bedroom.

Chandeliers are a great solution for adding decorative ambient lighting. Chandeliers over the foot of the bed create a statement of sophistication in a bedroom. The height of the chandelier shouldn’t be hanging too low and cause an obstruction to the view of tv screens or pose a safety hazard. Consider the size of the chandelier a large chandelier will overwhelm a smaller bed equally a small sized chandelier will feel lost paired with a king sized bed frame. The correct sized light will ensure your bedrooms space is appropriately lit throughout.

Wall Lights

Wall lights are perfect for late night reading and can be used as an alternative to table lamps. If your short on space either side of the bed and a table lamp is taking up too much space on your bedside table a wall light can ensure there’s enough room for flowers or a candle on a bedside table.

Wall lights with adjustable arms combine sleek style with functionality. The light can be directed to where you need it most and makes it perfect for reading or delicate embroidery work. Placing them above the bed instead of by the side can concentrate the light.

However, wall lights aren’t just used for lighting around the bed. Wall lights create an inviting atmosphere and are particularly useful in brightening up darker corners and long narrow spaces. Wall lights are a practical addition to bedroom lighting that save space, yield ambience and can be controlled by a dimmer switch to determined the mood of the room.

Due to the decorative nature of many wall lights they can be used to make a statement in your bedroom. Arranging wall lights in groups or clusters to create a feature in your bedroom helps to design a space that captures the imagination and produce transfixing displays with a variety of themes.

Floor Lamps

A floor lamp can be a principle feature of a room. Floor lamps have a unique role to play in the lighting design of a bedroom and can make a real impact on setting the scene of the bedroom. A floor lamp can be an investment piece. Over a period of time the layout of your bedroom might change due to change in style or house move and a floor lamp can be moved easily around the room to suit the interior. If you decide on creating a whole new interior for your bedroom a floor lamp can be styled with a new lamp shade.

An interior designers trick for making a smaller space look bigger is to utilise the verticals. Tall, slim floor lamps add height and elegance to a room, while using minimal floor space.
