Healthy Home Goals

A New Year’s Resolution for Year Round Wellbeing.

Start the New Year off right by making a few simple resolutions for a healthier home. Step into a brighter healthier home by setting just one healthy living goal. Every year we set ourselves health goals, this year we’ll help you greet the new year with a happier, healthier home environment. The goals for the home will be a real benefit for mental wellbeing.

Declutter and Deep Clean.

One of the most fundamental resolutions that you can adopt in 2023 is to make an effort to declutter and deep clean your home. Get rid of anything unnecessary that’s just taking up space and make it easier to keep your home neat and tidy. We all hang onto clutter – don’t beat yourself up about that, just approach the clear out as a step towards calm. Donate or sell unwanted items and pat yourself on the back that someone will find joy with it, and thats it’s been given a second life. Allow yourself to feel good, saving stuff from landfill is a healthy planet goal. Wow, you’ve started this health kick in a big way, planet saving is an achievement.

Perform a top-to-bottom deep clean that reaches into all the nooks and crannies of your living space, so that you can look forward to a fresh start. As you sweep away the cobwebs from the ceiling take time to look and see if you can improve something perhaps switching to a healthier type of lighting. Little improvements to how you live within your space can improve how you feel about your surroundings. Taking positive actions makes us all feel good about ourselves too.

Install Energy Efficient Lighting, Appliances and Fixtures.

To save energy and lower your energy costs, start by replacing old appliances and fixtures with ones that are energy-efficient.  As modern appliances they are guaranteed to use less electricity and water than conventional models.

This is also a great opportunity to update the look of your home. Whilst some changes may cost too much don’t give up, start small! Swapping an old style light bulb for a new LED bulb will start saving you money instantly. Some of the large, decorative bulbs make such an impact, all you’ll need is a suspension!

LED Light Bulbs

Energy-efficient light fixtures not only save you money, but they require less maintenance and have longer lifespans. Plus, installing smart meters or digital monitoring capabilities that help you keep track of your energy usage allows you make adjustments where needed. It’s a win-win all around! And you did it, saving the planet again from your very own living room.

OK, so these may be obvious steps but it’s worth repeating; little changes can bring real joy.

Create an Indoor Garden or Herb Planters.

With an indoor garden, you can bring in nature and its calming colours, fragrances, and flavours into your home. Herbs look beautiful when they look like they are thriving.  These little kits are easy to maintain and keep alive. What’s more is they are completely eco warrior worthy.

Make sure you choose the types of herbs that you use most often before getting started. It’s also important to make sure they are going to be used. One of the most popular is basil, but coriander and parsley are also really useful in a variety of dishes.

Introducing an indoor garden in your home is a great way to start the new year off on a healthy note. Not only will it add some life and colour to your interior spaces, but it will connect you closer with nature. By creating an indoor herb garden or planter, you can enjoy access to herbs of all varieties when cooking or just for aromas throughout your home. Plus, it’s incredibly cost-effective because you don’t need to buy herbs from the store if you have them growing inside. It’s the perfect new year’s resolution for anyone looking to live more sustainably this year!

Declutter Digital Spaces for Better Mental Health.

Decluttering digital spaces like your phone, computer, and tablet can help reduce stress and promote better mental health. When you have fewer distractions to create chaos for your brain, you are more likely to be productive and feel calmer.

If you’re still feeling uninspired, unorganised or blocked when you sit down to work, try decluttering specific digital spaces like no tech in the bedroom. If that’s too much of a step start small. Delete anything unnecessary or old that’s clogging up valuable memory on your phone or tablet.

As your digital organising skills improve, your ability to stay focused on tasks will skyrocket! It may take some time but clearing out the clutter from your digital life can help create a healthy home and improved mental health in the New Year.
