The International Day of Happiness is celebrated throughout the world on the 20th March. This year that means it falls on a Monday… I hear you, not generally regarded as the happiest day of the week! However until 2020/2021 we have to make the most of it. It’s not all bad though, at least we get to put that little more effort into making Monday happy, if there’s any day we want brighter it’s Monday!
Founded by UN adviser Jayme Illien on June 28th 2012 the International Day of Happiness has a fundamental goal of promoting happiness and the well being of all peoples. So on the 20th of March it’s a day to make a few little changes to lift your spirits, what better country to take inspiration from than the worlds highest ranked in the world happiness report? Denmark. The Danes have a way of living well called “Hygge”, pronounced “hoo gah”. It roughly translates to “coziness”, but simply put it’s doing the things you love, in a place you feel comforted, with the people that make you happy.

A hot chocolate with a snug blanket wrapped around you, that’s Hygge. Watching a film or playing a board game with friends or family in your favourite room, that’s Hygge. It’s the simple pleasures. These things are all sure fire ways to improve your self well being, it’s important to feel cosseted and nothing does it better than an ambient lit room. Often the Danes have candles lit in their rooms, candles have always had a relaxing and warming impact on us – though they’re not without their drawbacks, the dripping wax and need to keep an eye on them for safety reasons is just that little something that can lessen the calming effect. We have a brilliant range of LED candles with a realistic flame effect that creates the same mood without any worry, they’re even able to be put on an automatic timer. Furnish your home with simple elegance, a dimmable touch lamp in the corner of your room can have it feeling cosier in seconds. The Crackle touch lamp with an orange mosaic shade pictured in the below image helps to give off a warm glow that would be perfect for giving your living space that added Hygge, the soft materials used in the Mia table lamp personify the overall look.
Spend time with the people you love, those who make you happy. It’s an essential part of Hygge and the celebration of the International Day of Happiness. An evening in with a hot beverage, family, beautiful lighting and a good book or show. Getting the right colour and level of light is important and with our new ranges of iDual and WiZ this is as easy as it gets! Simply by using a remote control or your smart phone (depending on which range you choose) you are able to operate the lights, choose the brightness, colour or select from various presets including a delightful flame effect. Take yourself to a calmer place.
