David Hunt Lighting are prolific light fixture designers and they have expanded their extensive range of distinctive lighting further. The new, daringly characteristic pieces encapsulate all that is special about this prestigious Cotswold company. The David Hunt Lighting Collections are steeped in history yet manage to capture the very essence of the moment. Working with solid brass, fine silks and bronzed cast resin, the artistry and variety of light fittings is diverse, unpredictable and dare we say it, excitingly exotic.
We explored the new collection at the launch party held in Tatton Park, where the lighting collection shone brightly, attracting us like moths to the flame.
The anticipation of eagerly awaited new ceiling lights, lamps and wall lights, had our select group of stockists prowling and circling the room, our eyes darting from one showstopper to the next. Which pieces shall we add to our curated collections? Our choice was ‘Everything’! We could not resist; each light was a masterpiece in its own right.
Entering the vast space of Tatton Park’s Tennant Hall, a splendid room with high barrel-vaulted ceilings and panelled walls, adorned with relics of the grand tours, infamous in the days of landed gentry. The trophies from hunting, shooting and fishing expeditions are conveyed in the hall, which is bedecked with antlers, glass cases and exotic labels, depicting far-flung places. The mansion house is no doubt a great backdrop, yet the sense of splendour did not manage to over shadow the lighting collection.
Let us recreate this special advance preview just for you, including the palpable sense of quality and history that is David Hunt Lighting.
New Lighting Ranges
The ‘Cosmos’ light fitting, a large impressive statement light in a delightful, buttery gold tone, paired with crystal clear, glass open globes is a delight. Spanning the height of an average person, it’s perfectly proportioned for double height rooms, foyers and stairwells.
The ‘Apollo’ too, features clear glass, suspended in a tight bunch, which clusters the pendant light together to great effect. It makes an added impact when teamed with retro style vintage bulbs. We love this light, it’s ideal for bars, hotels, cafe’s and private homes alike, once seen it, we’re sure that you’ll be smitten too!
The new finishes of their butter brass were in evidence throughout this new collection and it’s a superior and quality finish. It’s actual solid brass, not a shiny, brash brass but a mellow colour with a slightly satin sheen. It’s sure to be every interior designers’ dream, as this slightly matte satin finish plays nicely with other colours, creating an effortlessly cohesive look.
Another range of lights set to steal the show is the ‘Adling’, with both a single ceiling pendant or a triple cluster pendant in a tubular design with an industrial look. The same tubular pipe effect is echoed in the large and impactful wall light. This range co-ordinates with the aforementioned ‘Cosmos’ and the ever popular ‘Orb’, which is now also available in the delectable butter brass finish.
David Hunt have also extended several of their other popular ranges, including the ‘Aspen’ range, which has gained a distinctive wall light and table lamp in the same wood finish with tapered clear glass shades.
The ‘Hyde’ is now also offered with chrome accents in arctic white, powder grey, matte black or a dark smokey blue, which look ultra-smart and slightly masculine. We can see these looking gorgeous in a fine dining restaurant, where dignity, quality and style is a pre-requisite in setting the tone. Having said that, with so many options of finishes and types within this range including ceiling lights, pendant lights, single wall lights, double wall lights and elegant table lamps, I’m sure it could make itself at home in many a domestic setting too.
Two new single glass ceiling pendants, the ‘Oyster’ and ‘Pearl’ which have the purest white, decorative ceiling rose, twisted cable and ornamental embellishments on the lamp-holder, reminiscent of period plasterwork, which is visible above and through the glass shades. The Oyster is a tapered cylinder whilst the Pearl is an open globe, which seems to be becoming an iconic theme and a winning design throughout this years’ new lighting ranges. You can clearly see why as there are so many attention grabbing vintage light bulbs worth displaying, the transparent glass showcases the look wonderfully.
We’re also seeing many designs this year that showcase the best features from the animal kingdom. The textured Snake wall light scroll in a pleasing swirly pattern in a textured, cast pewter or a bronze finish joins the range, along with ducks, parrots and pigs to delight animal lovers far and wide.
In addition, we’re also seeing that some clear, classical styles have emerged that have a slight colonial vibe. The distressed, vintage bamboo castings are used to form a distinctive table lamp and Pagoda styled pendant lantern.
The Napoleon wall light has a rococo emblem, mellowed by the same antiqued distressing. It’s teamed here with linen effect shades which are sold separately. If you are considering adding shades you’ll be delighted to hear there are some romantic, pale sateen lampshades, also newly launched by ‘The Light Shade Studio’, so this is the place to look. New colours and finishes include Ballet Pink, Swan, Almond Cream, Cloud, Graphite, Copper Oxide and a deep sumptuous Teal; the choice is seemingly endless.
The soft, satin materials can be made in lampshades of all sizes for ceiling lights or table and floor lamps; each shade is created exactly as you wish. You may select a gold foil inner lining, silver, white or even a contrasting or complimenting colour material lining should you wish. Four new, soft linen fabrics all have soft, subtle shades, Bone, Limestone, Marshmallow and Slate Grey, are all proudly environmentally friendly natural fabrics made from the flax plant. But worry not if bright colours are more your choice; there are also plenty of vibrant 100% silk in bright colours already in the collection!
The Light Shade Studio collection is not limited purely to lampshades, there are light fitments and wall lights all designed to work effortlessly with whatever shade you choose. The collection allows creativity and variation within a decorative lighting scheme, whilst working with your chosen colour pallet.
Finally, ‘The Alchemist Collection’ really pack a punch! They are large, statement table lamps, beautifully comprising of distinctive ceramics, glass or marble. Perfectly balanced, they are all heavy lamps suiting contract applications, where sturdy lamps are required for public areas.
