Making The Most Out of Your Small Bedroom

Small Bedroom Ideas

Having a small bedroom can be a difficult obstacle to overcome especially when it comes to making the most of the available space you have. It can also be the last room in the house to give some love to. Many of us just use it as a storage space. But we believe it’s time to add some sparkle to your small bedroom.

Multifunctional

The smallest bedroom in your house will most likely be doubled up as an office, wardrobe or craft room. So making the most of the space you have is important. Using a sofa bed helps create space which can easily and quickly be set up and packed down. Or using collapsible furniture such as shelves, desks and chairs helps utilise the space you have so you can use the room for multifunction.

Utilising Space

If you are purely using your small bedroom as just storage and sleeping space, there are many different ways of utilising the area. You could double up your headboard as a storage unit, add a floating bedside table, or a bed with built-in storage.

Using a mirror can also make it look longer. Wall lights also help open up the room as they do not take up any floor space. If you don’t have the fittings on your wall you can always opt for plug-in wall lights. Another light you can look at is USB portable lighting. This would be a huge benefit if you are short of plug sockets in the room.

Make use of every corner. You could consider getting bespoke built-in storage or wardrobes that are designed to fit every corner of a wall. Utilising every corner will add that extra bit of storage that’s always needed.

Changing the Room With Seasons

You can give your small bedroom a completely different look during winter and summer. Light Soft furnishings such as curtains, cushions, and bedding can be used in the summer to help brighter the room and dark soft furnishing can help create a cosy atmosphere in the winter.

Era

Depending on the style of your home there are many different Eras you can style your small bedroom. The most popular styles are Modern and Traditional, using the architecture within your home as inspiration. Your current small bedroom might be outdated and need a whole new lease on life. Or it could just do with a lick of paint and a new easy fit shade on the plastic suspension.

Colour

Choosing colours for your small room is a make-or-break decision. It can often be a difficult decision to choose the right colour for you and the room. White helps open up the room and blends together the walls and furniture, whereas darker colours can either close down the room and make it look smaller or distract you from the size of the room.

If you have high ceilings in a small-sized room, it can sometimes make the walls appear to close in. A top tip here is to add a picture rail and paint the ceiling a darker colour, or even wallpaper it to bring the space down and make the walls seem to stretch.

If you have low ceilings, it’s best to opt for white on the ceiling with a pale-coloured ceiling light.

Homewares

Choosing the right homewares for your small bedroom is an important part of maximising the space. Using bedding such as Laura Ashley wild meadow will brighten up the room. Also if you don’t want to create a feature wall but still want to create a subtle distraction from the room try using wall art.

If your small bedroom has windows using LED candles on the windowsill will help create a calming and relaxing atmosphere while also making the most of the available space.

Adding ornaments to the small bedroom will not only add a personal touch but will also help set your style. We would recommend using correctly scaled ornaments to match the scale of the bedroom. Using big ornaments will definitely stand out but will also make the room look even smaller and enclosed.

Decorating

What type of work are you looking at doing for your small bedroom? Are you refreshing, renovating or restoring your small bedroom?

When it comes to decorating the room there are many different ways to go about it. Painting everything white helps open up the room while creating a feature wall behind the bed will help distract from the small room. An all-over wallpaper will make the room feel much more cramped, but having just one feature wall will create a bright statement and ensure the room feels spacious.

Another thing to consider is if your small bedroom has a high or low ceiling. Having a high ceiling can make the room look out of proportion. If your small room has a picture rail we would recommend either painting or wallpapering the ceiling down to the picture rail or if it doesn’t, paint or wallpaper a quarter of the way down the wall. This will help make it seem that the ceiling is lower than it actually is. If your small bedroom has a low ceiling we would suggest using vertically striped or patterned wallpaper to help make the ceiling seem higher than it is. Panelling is also another great and effective way of creating more ceiling space.

Scentscaping

Finally, we would suggest Scentscaping. Using different scents in your room helps set a calming atmosphere. Adding scents such as citrus, fresh cotton or sea salt & Oakmoss create a soft smell which gives the room an airy feel. You can use Candles & Reed Diffusers to scent scape your room.
