MY ELECTRICIAN SAYS I NEED SPECIAL DOUBLE INSULATED LIGHTS AS I DO NOT HAVE AN EARTH CABLE WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

Your electrician is quite right, you will need to select what is called Double Insulated Lights (May also be referred to as Class II or Class 2 Lights). Quite a lot of older properties built before or during the 1960's may not have an adequate earth cable.

Double insulted Lights have 2 layers of insulation built in to protect the live parts.

It is possible to have your house re-wired by your electrician but this can be expensive, so the other solution is to select Double Insulted light fittings
