There’s a strong impetus to improve our homes and make them reflect our style. If you are on the look out for what lighting is going to be important within interiors consider Post Modern lighting.
One thing is true, we reject (very quickly reject!) designs that don’t really resinate with our own tastes.
Post Modern; what’s this trend all about?

Post modern isn’t a new concept, this was a movement in the 1970’s through to the 1990’s where there was a rejection of all that stood for modern at that time. Much as the Arts and Crafts movement earlier in history.
The Arts and Crafts period was a time between 1860 and 1890 where the was a backlash against mass produced designs. The arts and crafts so called movement advocated hand made items as opposed to machine made. We still prize handmade, but expect a little more uniformed quality nowadays.

Spotlighting the key elements of Postmodernism
Postmodern designs seek a newness something more characterful than Minimalism, but stop way before if becomes over crowded maximalism. It’s that sweet spot, where revered designs borrowed from history are re-worked or reimagined with a clever irreverence or whimsical touch that makes a more interesting concept all together.
Celebrating irregular, asymmetrical, wobblier shapes. You’ll also see unexpected colour ways contrast of colours and or materials. Where contrasting shapes heights, colours, materials are mixed to bring a far more visually interesting look.

Whilst there will be pops of the outrageous or whimsical, this is done with restraint. The quality of the materials should be second to none as this marks it as intentional.
Postmodernism is that mood of the moment. A contemporary take on a known object. In this instance, we’ll look at light fixtures where a postmodern twist surpasses expectations.
So what is a postmodern light fitting?
Taking an unconventionally look back and borrowing from a more interesting time, say the 70’s. A time when design seemed to have more merit and freedom gives a good beginning to a look.
Look at unexpected colour mixes, with plenty of black and gold striking postmodern chandeliers.
Sphere’s on stems

Go for Off set asymmetrical objects.
Bend the rules a little by adding the odd outrageous, whimsical or unexpected items. Little monkeys, animals holding light bulbs. Show off your quirky side.
Mix shapes, wobbly shapes with Geometrics, straight lines with circulars.
Bending the rules a tiny bit just to pique interest.
Is this going just a step too far….
Just go for it, especially if you have a big space be bold and playful.
We don’t think so Postmodern is pushing the boundaries. Postmodernism is very relevant and moves us forwards out of the shadows and into a brighter more exciting look.
